Cynthia was the first to begin her long-running career in the business making the move from New York to pursue a job as a model. After a brief period, Cynthia signed a 5-year agreement to work with Wihelmina Models. It led to an extremely successful book and design for Essence Magazine. Not only was Cynthia's first cover with Essence was one of the most popular cover designs in the history of the magazine but it also became an absolute favorite for then editor-in-chief Susan Taylor. Cynthia got her second cover shortly after, and this set the scene for her successful career. Then, she went to Paris and Milan. She appeared on the runways for Paris Fashion Week as well as Milan Fashion Week. Cynthia lived for nearly a year living abroad. After her return, her popularity skyrocketed. Cynthia was commissioned to create campaigns for Maybelline Oil of Olay Macy's. Magazine editorials for Vogue, Glamour, Elle, Essence and Vanity Fair soon followed. Cynthia's career was boosted by her being chosen ahead of Naomi Campbell for the co-starring part in "Without You", I'm nothing" with Sandra Bernhadt.
